[Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos – 04 Nov 2023] – The much-anticipated AmuwoGames 2023, a community sports festival dedicated to promoting physical health, youth empowerment, and community inclusivity, commenced today with a grand opening ceremony at a new venue, the FHA Field in Festac town.
The AmuwoGames, an annual event that celebrates the spirit of togetherness within the Amuwo-Odofin community, witnessed enthusiastic participation from residents and onlookers, setting the stage for an exceptional series of sporting events and festivities.
The opening ceremony was graced by distinguished guests, including Hon. George Adegeye, the Member of the House of Representatives representing the Amuwo-Odofin constituency, Hon. Olulade Omoniyi, the Councillor of Ward B, Amuwo-Odofin who represented the Chairman of the local government, and Victor Agali, a former Nigerian Super Eagles Striker. Hon. Stella Foluke Osafile also participated in the torch parade, symbolizing unity and community spirit.
A poignant moment during the opening ceremony was the heartfelt tribute to the late Adeoye Adesanya, a cherished member of the AmuwoGames committee. His memory was honored with the unveiling of the AmuwoGames torch, named in his honor, evoking a wave of emotions and remembrance of his profound contributions.
Seun Ayeni, the founder of AmuwoGames and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Chairman for the 2023 edition, delivered a stirring opening speech, emphasizing the event’s commitment to community well-being, empowerment, and the “Say No to Drugs” campaign.

A highlight of the day was the exhilarating first football match between the Festac Unicorns and GRA Rhinos, which concluded with a thrilling penalty shootout and Festac Unicorns emerging as the victors.
