I AM MOTIVATED BY MY DEEP PASSION FOR MY JOB – ACTING Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) IQ OGBUDU FSI.

Members of the Inside Watch Africa IWA team attended the valedictory press briefing of Acting Comptroller General IQ Ogbudu fsi, the outgoing Customs Area Controller of Lagos Industrial Area Command. She expressed her gratitude to God and the management of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for the opportunity to serve in various capacities, including her recent appointment as the Zonal Coordinator of Zone B.

During her tenure as the Area Controller, Ogbudu made significant improvements in the operations of the Lagos Industrial Area Command. She thanked the officers, men, and stakeholders for their unwavering support, prayers, and goodwill, which played a critical role in her achievements.

INTRODUCTION

Ogbudu highlighted that the Lagos Industrial Area Command is responsible for collecting Excise Duty and supervising factories under Excise Control in Lagos State. The command’s core functions include ensuring compliance with Excise regulations, enforcing the legal framework, processing applications for entry/re-entry of premises, and collecting and accounting for Excise revenue.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Since assuming duty as the Customs Area Controller in May 2022, Ogbudu focused on strengthening the enforcement and revenue collection units of the command. As a result, the command generated a total revenue of N21,870,511,010.88, representing a 50.35% increase compared to the previous year. From January to August 2023, the command generated N20,075,338,533.66, surpassing the revenue generated during the same period in the previous year. This represents a 38% increase, demonstrating the command’s significant revenue growth.

Ogbudu attributed the steady rise in revenue to the hardworking and dedicated officers who ensured the correct duties were collected. She also mentioned the increase in the number of functional factories under the command’s supervision, from 19 to 38, producing both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Ogbudu and her officers worked closely with stakeholders to ensure compliance with procedures and prompt payment of duties.

Furthermore, Ogbudu highlighted the construction of a befitting quarter guard and the renovation of the entire command building, which received a commendation from the CGC during his visit.

CONCLUSION

In her farewell message, Ogbudu extended her best wishes to the incoming Customs Area Controller, officers, men, and stakeholders. She expressed her gratitude to the Almighty God and the management of the Nigeria Customs Service for the opportunity to serve.
