AmuwoGames 2021 Ends on a High Note

The month-long AmuwoGames 2021 may have come and gone, but the event’s memory lives on in the hearts of the participants and the community at large. The final soccer match between Extension Dolphins and Mile 2 Lions started off the closing ceremony at 1 pm on Sunday 28th, 2021. After what appeared to be a boring game, Extension Dolphin seized the lead in the first half on a solo run by the goalscorer. The Mile 2 Lions responded with a thundering set piece from approximately 20 yards away from the goal post. After that, it became a battle of titans, with no one knowing where the pendulum would swing in the end. The tempo was so high that the referee had to order a penalty shootout to determine the winner after the regulatory time ran out. The Mile 2 Lions received a lucky break when they overcame the defending champion, the Extension Dolphins. It was a time for joy among their supporters and enthusiasts of the beautiful game.

Following that, all Gold, Silver, and Bronze medalists from the 17 tournaments received their medals, which were presented by members of the LOC, sponsors, and community leaders. The GRA Rhinos were declared the overall best team in this 2021 season, with the most medals; six gold medals. There was euphoria all over the place.

Finally, the curtain was drawn on the Amuwogames 2021 with a Gala night celebration to honor all stakeholders. The party event, which took place in the evening at the Festival hotel, Festac, was attended by corporate sponsors, media partners, and committee members. It was a pleasant evening with lots to drink and eat, as well as comedy and great music to dance to.

The star-studded event, which was attended by Nigerian Idol stars Faze and K Peace, as well as comedian Babahkay, was hosted by MC Kunle Keshinro, who made the night memorable.

Mr. Seun Ayeni, the founder of the Mini Sports Festival and the LOC Chairman of the AmuwoGames 2021, took the opportunity during the dinner to thank everyone in attendance, particularly the members of the organizing committee, for their support and sacrifice over the month-long sports festival. He also expressed gratitude to all of the corporate sponsors and media partners, including MTN, the Olatokunbo Foundation, Perception Technologies, Alek Pharmacy, Dreamrite, Lanre Shittu Motors, Kunle Ologun Foundation, CWAY, Mama Amuwo, Nigezie, TVC, and others, and expressed optimism that they would do even better in 2023.
