SAHCOL MD/CEO Inducted Into The Institute Of Directors (IOD) Nigeria

The Managing Director of the Skyway Aviation Handling Company Ltd, (SAHCOL) Mr. Basil Agboarumi has been inducted into the Institute of Directors (IoD) Nigeria.

The event which took place at the Lagos Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, was in the presence of Directors from various sectors of the economy.

At the event, which also witnessed the presentation of the keynote paper of the day by Professor Oye Ibidapo-Obe, with the title ‘Our Stochastic World: Measurable Innovations in Nigeria’s Development’, inductees were reminded of the importance of adhering to the principles of Corporate Governance, for effective and successful running of organisations. He went on to emphasize that the success of companies and organisations depends on the performance and competence of directors, their integrity, fairness and vision as well as the ability to balance the interest of all stakeholders in the society.

As a result, the new inductees were requested to be good ambassadors of the Institute, which have a core focus of institutionalizing good business practices in Nigeria. Basil Agboarumi started acting as the Managing Director/CEO of the Skyway Aviation Handling Company Ltd in December 2017 before his confirmation in September 2018.

Basil joined the Skypower Aviation Handling Company Limited in 2000 when it was a subsidiary of the Nigeria Airways Limited, as the Pioneer staff/Head of the Public Affairs Unit. After the privatization and subsequent takeover of Skypower Aviation Handling Company Limited by the SIFAX Group in 2009, he was appointed the Head of Corporate Communications, with a mandate to spearhead the re-branding of the new company (Skyway Aviation Handling Company Limited).

He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (FNIPR) and an Associate Member of the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (arpa). An Aluminous of the School of Media and Communications of the Pan-Atlantic University. He was one of the Nigerian delegates to the 2014, 2015 and 2016 World public Relations Forums, in Madrid – Spain, Nairobi – Kenya, and Toronto – Canada, respectively.

Basil is also the recipient of a Special Recognition Award by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), for his “distinct industry and outstanding contributions impacting positively on Nigeria’s Reputation”, is result-oriented, a good team player, motivator, with excellent people’s skill who has a successful track record in Leadership, Public Relations/ Communications.

He was the General Manager, Corporate Communications before he rose to become the Acting Managing Director and finally the Managing Director/ CEO due to his impressive performance at the helms of affair of the company as an Acting Managing Director.

SAHCOL WINS AIR NAMIBIA LAGOS GROUND HANDLING CONTRACT

The Skyway Aviation Handling Company Limited (SAHCOL) has won the contract to provide Aviation Ground Handling services to Air Namibia at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

The new contract will see SAHCOL providing unequalled Passenger, Ramp and Cargo Handling Services to the Airline from Friday, the 29th of June, 2018.

Air Namibia which is wholly owned by the Namibian Government is the National Airline of the Republic of Namibia. The airline whose flights will be originating from Windhoek, Namibia will be operating three flights weekly to Lagos, Nigeria.

The choice of SAHCOL as a preferred ground handling partner by Air Namibia is a further proof that SAHCOL is the handler of choice, providing excellent and dedicated ground handling services to its clients, hence  setting the pace in aviation ground handling business in Nigeria, in terms of innovation and efficient customer service.

SAHCOL WINS GNPN AWARD AS BEST AVIATION HANDLING COMPANY OF THE YEAR

The Skyway Aviation Handling Company limited, SAHCOL has been honoured with the Grassroots Newspapers Publishers Network Award, as “Best Aviation Handling Company of the year 2017.”

The award was presented to the Managing Director of SAHCOL, Rizwan Kadri, in his office, by Comrade Ike Abiagom, National Public Relations Officer of the Grassroots Newspaper Publishers Network (GNPN), who represented the National President, Dr. Dan Awana.

In a brief speech read on behalf of the National President of the Grassroots Publishers Network, in the presence of the Executive Members of GNPN, Southern Council, and Management staff of SAHCOL, the Publishers disclosed that, the award to SAHCOL is special and unique in every sense because it is being presented to a very special Nigeria Company that has proved beyond all doubts that democracy is truly improving the lives of the masses.

Dr. Awana said that, Grassroots Newspaper Publishers Network represent the vibrant media constituency of Community Newspaper Practitioners {Publishers}.

According to the President, “our mandate is basically to recognize, promote, celebrate and elevate our distinguished personalities in all spheres of life who have brought fame, glory; honour and unity to Nigeria, while at the same time carry out some investigative reports in order to balance our publications.”

He added that the GNPN also disseminate well-researched information, while bringing the policies and programmes of government to the grassroots that they serve and the challenges of the rural community to the government, stressing that they are the ‘BRIDGE’ between the government and the local masses.

SAHCOL TAKES OVER ALLIED AIR AND UPS HANDLING OPERATIONS

The Skyway Aviation Handling Company Limited SAHCOL has again consolidated on its rising profile as the Ground Handling Company of choice in Nigeria by adding Allied Air and United Parcel Service (UPS) to her estimable list of clientele.

The relocation of Allied Air operations to SAHCOL took effect from 2nd October, 2017, making SAHCOL the official Ground Handling partner to the airline’s Ramp and Cargo operations across Nigeria. Allied Air, which commenced operation in 1998 as a Nigerian national flag Cargo Airline carrier, is designated on numerous routes across Africa under the Bi-lateral Services agreement and is the first IOSA certified Cargo Airline in Nigeria.

Additionally, the United Parcel Services (UPS) has moved its cargo warehousing services to SAHCOL, consequently making SAHCOL the hub of UPS consignment warehousing.

UPS, which was founded in 1907, is a package delivery company and a provider of supply chain management solution in more than 175 countries and territories worldwide.

The commencement of UPS operation at the SAHCOL warehouse on the 7th of November, 2017, was graced by crème de la crème in the aviation freight/cargo business.
